Waterproof fabric is not a sealed bag
A waterproof fabric does not soak up water. A sealed dry bag has welded seams and a gasket closure, like a kayak bag. The belt bags here belong to the first family: the fabric sheds rain, but seams and zips let moisture through in a long downpour. Our product pages say so plainly. For a shower, a bike commute or a hike under an uncertain sky, it is the right protection; near water, keep the phone in the inner pocket.
Nylon, Oxford canvas or technical fabric
Coated nylon is the lightest and dries fast; one of our nylon models is only nineteen centimetres long and stays flat against the body. Oxford canvas, a tight weave made for outdoor gear, copes better with rubbing against a wall or a branch. Laminated fabric, built in several layers, resists tearing better for the same weight. Some models carry Molle straps and clip onto a backpack strap.
Frequently asked questions
Does my phone stay dry in the rain?
Yes in a shower. In hours of heavy rain, moisture can get in through the seams and the zip, so the inner pocket is the safest place.
How do I clean a nylon or canvas belt bag?
A damp sponge and a little soap are enough. Avoid the washing machine and the dryer: heat damages the water repellent coating.
Can I wear it in town?
Yes. Black, khaki or grey and a cross body carry make it a city bag as much as an outdoor one. For trail running and hiking, see the running waist bag range.
