Choose the volume for your trips
Pick the volume for your most frequent outings, not the longest one: a bag that is too big always gets filled, and the weight follows. For a day, our smallest model comes in 15 or 20 litres and another covers 20 to 35 litres in Oxford canvas. For a weekend, one model comes in 25 or 50 litres, with two bottle holders and a padded sleeve for a 13 inch laptop. Beyond that, the 50 to 60 litre models take a sleeping bag, a stove and spare clothes.
What makes a backpack tactical
The fabric first: Oxford canvas or thick nylon, chosen to stand up to rubbing against rock or branches. Then the layout: separate pockets for the phone, the torch and the first aid kit rather than one large compartment. Some models are described as water resistant, and one comes with a rain cover; zips are not sealed, so in long rain a cover or an inner dry bag protects what must stay dry. For big travel volumes, see the large backpack for men range.
Frequently asked questions
Does a tactical backpack work in town?
Yes, especially in black: its many pockets hold a laptop, cables and documents. It is heavier when empty than a thin nylon city bag.
What volume for a day hike?
Between 20 and 35 litres: enough for a jacket, a meal, water and a first aid kit.
Can I carry a laptop?
Some models have a dedicated sleeve, stated on the product page. Check the size before ordering.
