This men’s canvas messenger takes the satchel format: 41 cm wide, 28 high, 7 deep. That geometry accepts an A4 folder unfolded and a 15 inch laptop flat, which most square shoulder bags do not.
The satchel shape was designed for documents, and it is still what it does best. Wider than tall, it spreads weight across the shoulder instead of concentrating it at the bottom of the bag; a square bag of the same volume pulls harder because its mass hangs lower. Canvas wears by lightening at corners and seams rather than cracking, so you see the end of the bag coming, which is not true of a coating that goes all at once. Three shades, adjustable strap, 712 g.
