Thick canvas with leather trim at the corners and anchor points. It is the classic messenger build: canvas carries the volume, leather takes the abrasion.
Canvas alone wears at the corners and anchors, exactly where the bag rubs the hip and the strap pulls. Leather alone would weigh twice as much for the same capacity. The mixed build puts each material where it is best, which is why it has not changed in a century.
Wide enough for an A4 notebook and a tablet, deep enough for a pouch and a bottle. Thick canvas holds its shape even half empty, unlike nylon which collapses and looks neglected. Never machine wash: it slackens the weave and the bag loses its stance permanently.
