Leather Bag Strap

A leather bag strap changes a bag faster than a new bag does. It replaces a factory strap that is too short, a canvas webbing that gave out, or turns a hand carried clutch into a shoulder bag. Our replacement straps are sold on their own, adjustable, and clip onto most bags fitted with D rings or swivel hooks.

Getting the length right

Measure from one attachment point to the other, over the shoulder, on a bag you already carry the way you like. Three markers cover most cases: around 100 cm for a plain shoulder carry, 120 to 130 cm for a crossbody carry, and 140 cm or more for crossbody over a heavy coat. Adjustable models cover a range rather than a single figure, which removes the two centimetre mistake.

Width, comfort and load

The wider the strap, the better it spreads weight. A 15 to 20 mm strap suits a light clutch and stays discreet. Past 800 grams of load, a 25 to 38 mm width becomes noticeably more comfortable over a full day. A narrow strap on a heavy bag digs into the shoulder within the hour.

Check the hardware before you buy

Two systems dominate. Swivel hooks clip onto the bag rings and mount in seconds, no tools. Screw or loop fittings need a slot already present on the bag. So look at your bag's attachment points first: that is the only thing that can make a strap unusable.

Caring for a leather strap

A strap works harder than the bag itself, because it folds in the same place every time you carry it. A nourishing balm two or three times a year keeps that fold from turning into a crack. Avoid storing it tightly coiled for months, and wipe off rain without drying it near a radiator.

Frequently asked questions

Will a replacement strap fit any bag?

It fits any bag with rings, D rings or loops that accept the strap's hooks. A bag with no attachment point cannot take one without modification.

What length do I need for crossbody?

Count 120 to 130 cm for an average build, more if you carry the bag over a coat. An adjustable model remains the safest choice.

What is the difference between a handle and a strap?

A handle is short and carried in the hand or the crook of the arm. A strap is long and worn over the shoulder or across the body.
