Two belts in one, taking the space of one
In the morning you put on black shoes or brown shoes, and the belt has to follow. Most men solve this by buying two belts, wearing one, and forgetting the other at the back of a drawer.
The buckle pivots, the strap turns over
The centre bar of the buckle turns on its axis. You release the strap, flip it, close it again: the black side becomes the brown side. It takes a few seconds and needs no tool. It is an old mechanism, with no electronics and no spring, so nothing that can break.
What you actually gain
One belt instead of two in the bag, and matching your shoes stays possible.
Black with the dark suit, brown with chinos and a jacket. Same object.
A spare belt that takes up one slot, in case yours gives out on a trip.
Split leather, and what that means
The strap is split leather, the lower layer of the hide, corrected on the surface. It is leather, it is not full grain. In practice: a perfectly even tone along the whole length, good resistance to daily use, and a price that has nothing to do with a saddler’s belt. What it will not do is develop a patina and tell the story of the years the way full grain does.
Getting the length right
Five lengths, from 105 to 125 cm. Measure a belt you already wear, from the base of the buckle to the hole you actually use. That is the only reliable measurement: trouser sizing varies too much between brands to serve as a guide.
