Full grain or synthetic
| Material | Real advantage | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Full grain leather | Gains a patina, can be repaired, lasts a decade with care | Dislikes prolonged damp, and weighs more |
| Synthetic leather | Handles rain, keeps its look, lighter | Cannot be repaired, only replaced |
| Reinforced nylon | Most resistant to heavy use | Less formal appearance |
Synthetic is not a second choice. For anyone out in the rain daily, it ages better than full grain leather that is never cared for.
What to look at inside
- The lining: stitched, it holds the shape and can be replaced. Glued, it lifts in the heat and leaves the bag beyond saving even when the outside is intact.
- The strap anchor points: that is where rucksacks give way, not in the fabric.
- The base: the part that wears first, and the one that rarely appears in photos.
Before you buy
Prices include tax and the product page is what counts. We ship worldwide and you have 30 days from delivery to return an item, with return postage at your expense. An honest warning: a rucksack with no known label, however well built, has no resale value. Buy it for use and for how long it lasts, never expecting to recover part of the cost.
